About Ján (pronounced “Yon”) Gadzo
With European beginnings, Jan Gadzo’s walnut-filled pastry has now become an ethnic favorite among northern Minnesota’s Iron Range. Many families all across the Range make and enjoy potica in several forms and variations, depending on nationality.
The Gadzo’s version has Slovak roots—if it were made in Europe, it would be called “Orechovnik,” orech meaning “walnut.”
Our potica is proudly made fresh-to-order in a European style at Tobies Bakery in Hinckley, Minnesota. We only use the finest ingredients and techniques allowed for the finest “orechovnik” on the Range.
